RE: Strange sound the pulley or the a/c compressor going bad?

I'll check the fan, but the noise is fairly consistent. Its "on" when starting from a dead stop and "off" after I am cruising up at 30-40mph.
Thanks to everyone for the help so far.

Strange sound the pulley or the a/c compressor going bad?

I have a 2002 Fleetwood Southwind with the 8.1 Workhorse.
This weekend, while driving home, I heard a very loud sound coming from the engine compartment. The only way to describe the sound is to hear an oscillating fan hitting a piece of metal. It would start when I pulled from a dead stop and would stop as the vehicle smoothed out at 40mph or so. I haven't had a chance to open up the engine compartment yet-I'll work on it this weekend.
I'm thinking maybe a pulley or the a/c compressor. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

BILLARF-can you send me those instructions also? I have basically the same coach.
Thanks.

RE: mid entry door adjustment

I had issues with my door adjustment all last weekend during our trip. In the afternoon the sun would heat up and the door would stick. I adjusted it only to have it stick again at night after it cooled off.
I emailed that guy for a door striker. How is it any different than the stock one?

RE: Battery Problems - Looking for Solutions (a little long)

Your coffee maker is probably in the neighborhood of 1500 watts. If you have a simple 2 battery-12 volt setup, I would bet your coffee maker is draining your batteries. It doesn't take much.
Whenever I brew coffee and I'm boondocking, I run the generator until the pot is done, and then pour the coffee into a container made for hot beverages. Then turn the generator off. Or, use the time to charge your batteries from the day before.

RE: Seeking RV magazine article on coach painting

There was a nice article in Motorhome Magazine in January, 2008 titled "A New Lease on Life" that described in detail how to do a full body paint job.
They used Creative Coach Collision Repair and Design Center in Lakeland Florida, phone # 888-234-3439. They also used Xtreme Paint and Graphics in Nacogdoces Texas, phone # 936-560-5888.
If you would like a copy of the article, let me know-I can fax a copy to you.

RE: Outside storage door movement

Your tabs probably need to be replaced. I had a kid on a quad run into my slide last year which tweaked the compartment door. I couldn't get it to close right and the simple fix was replacing the tabs-now it works great.
Good luck.

RE: I'm replacing my slide toppers

I had an awning company (Phoenix Awning) make new vinyl replacement toppers for my slides over one year ago and I have had no issues-they fit perfect and no mildew problems like others have suggested. I saved a bunch of money replacing them myself.
Don't know how long the vinyl will last, but I know the original sunbrella toppers only lasted 5 years.

RE: Motorhome Paint Job in Mexico

I have lived in Arizona for over 20 years and it is common practice to have a vehicle painted in Mexico. Just as in any big investment, I would certainly get references-but any painter in Rocky Point would surely have references you can call here in the U.S.
Labor is so much cheaper in Mexico which accounts for cheaper paint jobs. From my experience, most mexican painters take great pride in their work. Plus, if they routinely paint vehicles from the U.S., they don't want their reputation ruined by a bad job-word spreads fast.
Good luck and please keep us updated if you decide to pull the trigger. I would be interested to know how the process went.

RE: Direct TV

This past weekend, while boondocking in Yuma (I live in Phoenix), I was watching Directv in my rv that I pulled out of my house in Phoenix. The first day in Yuma we got the local Phoenix channels no problem. The second day, the unit reset itself and then I was NOT able to get ANY local channels. I thought this was odd, since we hadn't even driven or moved anywhere.

RE: Portable Gas Generators or Regular Genset

I have a Honda EU1000i that I carry with me, especially when I am boondocking. It holds .6 gallons of gas, is extremely quiet, and will run for about 7 hours on a full tank. I will usually turn it on before we go to bed and let it run all night. I never have to worry about my batteries dying during the night in the winter (from the heater fan turning on and off). During the day we use an inverter for the T.V., etc.
I have been using this Honda for about 2 years and wouldn't leave home without it!
P.S., I don't use it (at night) in campgrounds where quiet hours are enforced, usually just at the sand dunes or out in the boonies.

RE: pulling trailer behind class a

Keep in mind if you are going to use a hitch extender, you will significantly reduce the weight you can tow.
Here is some info from etrailer; http://www.etrailer.com/c-extender.htm

RE: Dry Camping for the first time

Drain Surgeon,
Regarding using my Honda generator.....I plug in the coach 110 outlet to the Honda and like I said, simply let it run all night. It keeps my batteries charged and the heater/fan working with no worries. Been doing this for over 2 years with no issues.

RE: Dry Camping for the first time

As we dry camp on every trip we make, batteries are critical to me. I found that running the furnace/fan during the night when its cold was substantially wearing down my batteries.
Instead of running my big Onan all night, I bought a used Honda eu1000i generator. I simply start it up and plug it in before I go to bed. It will usually run until 5 or 6 am and then it will be out of gas. This easily gets me through the night. The gas tank is 0.6 gallons, so it uses very little fuel. And it is REALLY QUIET!
Just another idea.

RE: tail lights not working

I had a similar problem.
I hooked up a trailer and I kept blowing the fuse. I had to put in a bigger fuse for my tail lights in my coach fusebox on the left side under the dash. I went from a 5 to a 10 and that solved the problem. Just my input.
